Thursdays Are For Gettin' Stuff Done

I think I've finally figured out the basic concepts behind my new journal comic. I have a name (hint: the acronym is TFA), the general gist behind it, some of the 'rules' figured out. I need to figure out who the core cast is going to be, but that will come in time.

Some of you are probably wondering why a journal comic would need structure. Isn't it just stuff that happens to the author? Why would you want to impose rules on that?

Rules are good. Rules in art are great. Creating restrictions on your art is the best way to inspire creativity. Put up a roadblock in your path and you'll have to do some ingenious thinking to figure your way around it. True innovation comes from overcoming adversity, even if the adversity is artificial.

Thursday night is Pub Night! Jeff and Rich won't be able to make it this week like they had hoped, but there will still be beer if you're not doing anything this evening and you're in NYC.

Oh, also, fellow Dumbrella douchebag Sam Brown is having a super-amazing sale on his t-shirts over at Exploding Dog.

Your comic is probably the best example of how strict self-imposed restrictions can result in brilliant creative solutions.

The secret is entirely the dinosaurs. If I had built a "Sucky Dogs Comics" template then it would have been disaster.

Baby when you got talking dinosaurs stompin' on houses every day, it's like saying "I'm going to restrict myself to only the most delicious slices of pizza for dinner every night."

Also this is probably a good time to finally reveal my "Only one sentence a day" Livejournal since it's on topic here. It's nothing grand, just something I'm trying out.
