| | sick | ] | I'm really enjoying The Accidental Time Machine, Joe Haldeman's latest. It touches on some of the same themes as The Forever War but is very different in feel, almost as though Haldeman were channeling Vinge or Rucker.
I'm not finished yet, but about 3/4 of the way through and it's pretty perfect. |

I didn't realize he had anything new out! Thanks for the recommendation. Joe was my SF writing professor, and is every bit as cantankerous as you might expect.
You know me, I'll take any book recommendations you've got.
On the basis of this post I grabbed a copy of the forever war, the sequel and peace.
I like his writing for the first and last, the middle one kind of sucked.
Both the first and last would make good american style movies.
The second is storytelling with too quick a wrap up IMHO, makes the shazam twix stories look like award winning bits.
Although I did like shazam twix bits, not saying that kind of story is inherently flawed, just saying that haldeman didn't do it as well as you did.
This one you are reading, closer to the first and last of the 3 I got or the middle? It isn't available here yet and am wondering if it worth the amazon purchase. | |
