Depends. How many readers who don't happen to share your views are you willing to alienate? Once in a long while, TidBITS runs something with an overtly or even negligible political content, and we hear it in spades.
More like how much bitching are you willing to withstand? People will complain if you say you like one flavor of donut more than another. It's the nature of internet.
I made a $10 donation to Obama yesterday and then he won all three primaries. Coincidence? I like to think not.
My $100 to Gravel bought a lot more bus tickets.
One would think that you can do as much political stuff as you like as long as it's funny and/or veiled.
Some of us don't have your cash power, Stevens! Yeah it was a token donation but it made me feel better. I've done worse with $10.
It was a bunch of little donations, I meant more that the poor bastard actually used it on BUS TICKETS of all things.
Awwwww......I wish Gravel was my grandpa. I bet he always has those little individually wrapped mints in his coat pocket.
You can gauge how appropriate it is based on how many Reddit links it will get you. If the answer is none, don't bother, I say.
That's as close as I've come to being registered to vote since 1992.
Is it possible that the American public may actually not fuck up an election for once? No. I fear he'll come up just short of the required number of delegates and the superdelegates will throw it to Clinton and then we all get to kill ourselves.
Kill ourselves remotely from NZ.
Although, fair warning, we have an election this year as well and it's looking like the rightwing party is doing very well. Granted, they wouldn't be AS rightwing as anyone in the states I'd imagine, but still...
I'm cautiously behind Obama as well, but don't take the last 8 states as meaning almost anything. Clinton hasn't been able to raise as much cash. She's going to campaign with a vengeance in Texas and Ohio and those races are going to make or break her comeback.
Given the whole Republicans for Voldemort thing, I think you can get away with some commentary, but don't make it an ongoing thing -- a joke here or there at most.
My gauge would be, "How do I think I'll look back on this a year or two from now?" Regardless of the outcome. If you're okay with it, run with it. If not, hold off.
At the end of the day, it's your comic. Do what you want.
Last week, I just had a little note saying that I was voting for Obama in the primaries and the response was %60 "Yeah man!" and %40 "Excuse me, I'd like you to look into Ron Paul"
Is it possible that the American public may actually not fuck up an election for once?
And yet, the seeds are already sown for Florida to completely fuck it up. AGAIN.
If something like that does happen, instead of everybody saying they're going to move to Canada, I propose we just give Florida to Cuba. It'll be easier for everyone.

I don't think a week had gone by over the past year when I didn't see a random car on the road with a "Republicans for Voldemort" sticker on its bumper. In that sense, your political stance reached a whole bunch of people.
I'd say put as much politics on your work as you want. You've weathered whiney readers for lesser reasons in the past 11 years*.
*almost 11 years already? Man, time's an evil whore. |
